- A certificate to submit to the Bar
The framework
The levels required by the Bar
Before you are sworn in, the Luxembourg Bar checks your Luxembourgish and your German. It does not ask for “a good level”: it sets a minimum language by language and, within each language, skill by skill – on the scale of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
This scale does not measure grammar knowledge: it describes what you can do in the language. And it sets the bar one notch higher for understanding than for speaking – the order in which these two languages come to you in Luxembourg: you hear them in court, at the registry or on the phone long before you have to speak them.
What these levels mean
- B2 in listening. Follow a conversation between native speakers at normal speed, on a topic you know, without anyone having to repeat or slow down for you.
- B1 in speaking. Make yourself understood directly: introduce yourself, ask your questions, explain a situation, say what happened. The phrasing stays simple and hesitations are accepted – what matters is that the exchange works.
- B2 in reading. Read a long, reasoned text – a letter, a ruling, a press article – and grasp the essentials without a dictionary. It is only required in German.

The German and Luxembourgish teachers are excellent! The price is also very good value for CCDL students. I really recommend this course!
I contacted Cours At Home to take Luxembourgish lessons. The lessons are tailored to what we ask for, and scheduling lessons with the teacher is very flexible. I really recommend it, I’m very satisfied.
This language school is great and the staff really listen. Jérôme Koenigsecke, who runs it, is always fully available and will answer all your questions. Liliana (Luxembourgish teacher) is very caring and teaches with exemplary skill.
I am very happy with Cours at Home’s services. I have been using them for a little over three years now, and I can confirm that their service is excellent. Cours at Home always listens to its clients’ needs – needs which, in my case, are rather demanding, since I am usually looking for German-speaking teachers.
I took German and Luxembourgish lessons with Cours at Home and I’m very satisfied. The lessons are well structured and tailored, and the trainers are good teachers. It really helped me progress. I recommend them without hesitation.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most
Have a question? Call us now
+352 26 30 27 90Do I need to speak German or Luxembourgish already?
No. The modules start at beginner level and take you to the levels required by the Bar. That is the very format of the preparation: ten weeks, four hours a week, one language at a time.
How do I obtain the certificate?
By completing the 40 hours of the module with an attendance rate of at least 80%. The certificate is then issued for your registration with the Bar.
How many people are there per group?
Lessons are held in small groups, 10 people maximum, so that everyone has time to speak. That is the whole point of the format: speaking is assessed by the Bar.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes, at no extra cost: in two instalments for one language, in three for both languages.
How long have you been supporting CCDL students?
Cours at Home has been teaching in Luxembourg since 2009 and has supported CCDL students for more than 9 years. We also work with several law firms in Luxembourg.
What if I miss a session?
Let us know: the attendance rate is calculated over the whole module, so a single absence does not put the certificate at risk. Beyond that, we will find you a place in the next session.
