French lessons in primary school
French arrives in cycle 2, after German, and quickly becomes the language of many exercises. This is when good habits are formed — or not: a child who reads French slowly will read slowly everything they are asked to do in that language later on.
So we work in this order: reading, the missing vocabulary, then spelling and first pieces of writing. Nothing done here duplicates classwork — it’s their cycle’s programme, taken at their own pace, on the exercises they actually have to hand in.
All lessons – PrimaryFrench lessons in secondary school
In the classic track, more and more subjects switch to French: maths, history and science are taught in it. Working on French therefore means working on everything else — reading questions, writing, spelling.
It is the scale on which the secondary school programmes are built: we know where the student needs to be at the end of the year, and we start by looking at where they really are.

French lessons for adults
In Luxembourg, French is the language of business, government and many job interviews. Whether you’re starting from scratch or from distant school memories, we aim for what you need: speaking without searching for your words.
The whole scale is open to you: we start at A1 if you have never practised, and stop at the level your project requires – an official test, a job, settling here for good. Not sure where you stand? We find out before the first lesson.

French lessons for companies
Your teams serve French-speaking customers, write letters and negotiate on the phone. We work on exactly those situations, with the vocabulary of their job, and the training qualifies for the tax credit.
At work, everything happens between B1 and C1: following a meeting, defending a proposal, writing without needing a proofreader. We assess each employee before forming the groups.

Why French isn’t learned here the way it is elsewhere
It comes second. A child schooled in Luxembourg learns to read and write in German, and only discovers French once those habits are in place. French spelling therefore arrives as a second grammar, with different rules and different sounds — which explains many mistakes wrongly put down to carelessness.
Then it becomes the language of other subjects. In classic secondary education, part of the programme switches to French over the years: maths, history and science are taught in it. A pupil who is comfortable with the subject but not with the language then loses marks that have nothing to do with the subject, and nobody notices as long as they look at the mark rather than the paper.
Outside school, it’s the most widely spoken language in the country day to day: shops, government offices, building sites, cafés. Many adults arrive here with English and realise after six months that it’s French they’re missing — to be served, understood and taken seriously.

The best teachers
Who you learn with
We take great care in choosing our teachers: each one is interviewed and tested before their first lesson. We look at their degree, of course, but just as much at the way they explain – that is what helps a student progress. Then we look among our teachers for the one whose profile matches your level and your goal.
- Teachers holding at least a bachelor’s degree, recruited after an interview and a test.
- Native speakers for spoken language practice.
- 96% satisfied customers and more than 140,000 hours of lessons taught.
- An organisation approved by the Ministry of National Education: your corporate training qualifies for a tax credit of 20% to 35%.

After a spell in communications, I returned to my first ambition, which was teaching. The variety of lessons offered by Cours at Home has allowed me to develop my skills and gain a thorough knowledge of all the school systems in the Grand Duchy. I have been able to help Luxembourgish students, as well as students from the French system and from many backgrounds, reach their goals. My motto: “your success, my goal”.

I contacted Cours At Home to take Luxembourgish lessons. The lessons are tailored to what we ask for, and scheduling lessons with the teacher is very flexible. I really recommend it, I’m very satisfied.
This language school is great and the staff really listen. Jérôme Koenigsecke, who runs it, is always fully available and will answer all your questions. Liliana (Luxembourgish teacher) is very caring and teaches with exemplary skill.
I am very happy with Cours at Home’s services. I have been using them for a little over three years now, and I can confirm that their service is excellent. Cours at Home always listens to its clients’ needs – needs which, in my case, are rather demanding, since I am usually looking for German-speaking teachers.
I took German and Luxembourgish lessons with Cours at Home and I’m very satisfied. The lessons are well structured and tailored, and the trainers are good teachers. It really helped me progress. I recommend them without hesitation.
The German lessons with Aurore make for real learning, with lots of speaking practice, interactive lessons, good teaching methods and plenty of variety. I recommend her 100%. The lessons are well organised, with flexible options.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most
Have a question? Call us now
+352 26 30 27 90My child speaks French at home but still struggles at school. Is that normal?
It’s actually the most common case. Speaking a language and writing it are two different skills: spelling, grammar and composition aren’t picked up at the dinner table. A child who is perfectly at ease speaking can lose marks on written work for years without anyone making the connection.
Do you teach French as a foreign language and literacy?
Yes, at every level — from the complete beginner who can’t yet read the Latin alphabet to the adult who wants to lose their accent in meetings. Some of our teachers specialise in French as a foreign language and in literacy; it’s not the same job as tutoring, and we don’t confuse the two.
Do you follow the Luxembourg curriculum or the French one?
Both, and others too. Our pupils come from Luxembourg state schools, the Lycée français, the European School and international schools: expectations and marking differ from one to the next. Tell us the school, and we’ll match you with someone who knows it.
When should I start to worry?
Less at the first bad mark than when the child stops reading — avoiding books, skipping instructions, handing in four-line essays. That’s the sign the language is costing them too much, and it’s what can best be put right early.
Can lessons take place online?
Yes, with the same teacher and the same method: a virtual classroom with a whiteboard, screen sharing and document exchange. For a working adult, it’s often what makes the pace manageable; many switch between in-person and video call depending on their week.
