English lessons in primary school
English comes late in Luxembourg schooling, when three languages are already in place and pupils are starting to find that quite enough. Discovering it earlier, at an age when children imitate without judging themselves, spares them meeting it later as yet another hurdle.
So at primary level there’s no grammar: we listen, repeat, play and sing. Children pick up the accent and the habit of understanding without translating everything — two things that are much harder to acquire later on, and that will save them years at secondary school.
All lessons – PrimaryEnglish lessons in secondary school
English quickly becomes the language of higher education and work placements. We consolidate the grammar and vocabulary of the programme, and work on speaking — the kind assessed in class, and the kind that will be needed afterwards.
It is the scale on which the secondary school programmes are built: we know where the student needs to be at the end of the year, and we start by looking at where they really are.

English lessons for adults
People rarely take up English again for the joy of grammar: it’s for a meeting, an interview, an exam or a move abroad. We start from your situation and you speak from the very first lesson.
The whole scale is open to you: we start at A1 if you have never practised, and stop at the level your project requires – an official test, a job, settling here for good. Not sure where you stand? We find out before the first lesson.

English lessons for companies
Your teams work with people who speak neither French nor German. Meetings, emails, presentations: we work on the English of their job, on your premises or by video call, with the tax credit to boot.
At work, everything happens between B1 and C1: following a meeting, defending a proposal, writing without needing a proofreader. We assess each employee before forming the groups.

Why English has become essential in Luxembourg
It comes last at school and first in working life. Pupils here discover it when three languages are already in place and they’re starting to find that quite enough: they approach it tired of languages, at the very moment this one matters most for what comes next.
Because it’s the fallback language that became the working language. As soon as one more person joins a meeting, it switches to English; the email to head office, the supplier abroad, the technical documentation, the contract. In a country where people work every day with colleagues from all over the world, it’s the one language nobody can do without.
It’s also the language of higher education: a large share of master’s programmes are taught in English, here as in the universities the country’s pupils go on to, with an IELTS or TOEFL score to include in the application. You don’t prepare for these exams the way you prepare for a class test — the format needs as much work as the language.

The best teachers
Who you learn with
We take great care in choosing our teachers: each one is interviewed and tested before their first lesson. We look at their degree, of course, but just as much at the way they explain – that is what helps a student progress. Then we look among our teachers for the one whose profile matches your level and your goal.
- Teachers holding at least a bachelor’s degree, recruited after an interview and a test.
- Native speakers for spoken language practice.
- 96% satisfied customers and more than 140,000 hours of lessons taught.
- An organisation approved by the Ministry of National Education: your corporate training qualifies for a tax credit of 20% to 35%.

Nothing is more rewarding than guiding my students towards better English skills. The self-confidence they regain through their efforts proves that, whatever their school system, they can acquire the knowledge they need by working regularly – skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Teaching English in a multilingual setting lets me share my experience and adapt it, whether they are adults or teenagers.

I contacted Cours At Home to take Luxembourgish lessons. The lessons are tailored to what we ask for, and scheduling lessons with the teacher is very flexible. I really recommend it, I’m very satisfied.
This language school is great and the staff really listen. Jérôme Koenigsecke, who runs it, is always fully available and will answer all your questions. Liliana (Luxembourgish teacher) is very caring and teaches with exemplary skill.
I am very happy with Cours at Home’s services. I have been using them for a little over three years now, and I can confirm that their service is excellent. Cours at Home always listens to its clients’ needs – needs which, in my case, are rather demanding, since I am usually looking for German-speaking teachers.
I took German and Luxembourgish lessons with Cours at Home and I’m very satisfied. The lessons are well structured and tailored, and the trainers are good teachers. It really helped me progress. I recommend them without hesitation.
The German lessons with Aurore make for real learning, with lots of speaking practice, interactive lessons, good teaching methods and plenty of variety. I recommend her 100%. The lessons are well organised, with flexible options.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most
Have a question? Call us now
+352 26 30 27 90Do you prepare for exams: IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, TOEIC?
Yes, with teachers who know the specific exam — preparing for Academic IELTS isn’t the same as preparing for a professional TOEIC. We work on the format as much as the language: time management, question types and each exam’s particular traps earn extra marks at the same level of English.
Are your teachers English speakers?
They are native English speakers, or fully bilingual with long experience abroad. For a beginner, we often choose someone who also speaks their language: at the start, it helps to be able to ask a question and get a clear answer.
My child is at an international school where everything is already in English. Can you help?
Yes. It’s actually a common request: the pupil understands everything in class but loses marks on written work, because the academic English expected isn’t playground English. We work on writing, structure and register, using their own homework.
I speak English at work, but I go quiet in meetings. Can that be worked on?
It’s what we hear most often, and yes. The problem is rarely vocabulary: it’s reaction time and fear of making mistakes. So we practise on your real situations — speaking up, interrupting, rephrasing, presenting — rather than from a textbook.
Can we start partway through the year?
Yes, at any time, with no minimum commitment. Before the first lesson we assess the level — orally for an adult, from schoolwork for a pupil — and the teacher starts from there.
