Luxembourgish lessons in primary school
In cycle 1, everything happens in Luxembourgish: it’s the language of the classroom, of instructions and of the playground. A child who doesn’t hear it at home understands half of what’s being said around them, and it doesn’t show straight away — they go quiet, they watch, and people think they’re shy.
A few hours are often enough to get them back into the swing of it: we start from speaking, from the words of their day, from the instructions they hear every morning. Later, when German and then French take over in class, Luxembourgish remains the language of their friends — the one a child needs to speak to be part of the group.
All lessons – PrimaryLuxembourgish lessons in secondary school
Luxembourgish is no longer the language of lessons, but it remains the language of classmates, summer jobs and work placements. We work on speaking first, and on writing for those who will need it at secondary school or in a public-sector job.
It is the scale on which the secondary school programmes are built: we know where the student needs to be at the end of the year, and we start by looking at where they really are.

Luxembourgish lessons for adults
It’s the language that opens doors no other language can here: the service counter, the neighbours, the job interview, and the naturalisation language test. We start from scratch if need be, and you speak from the very first lesson.
The whole scale is open to you: we start at A1 if you have never practised, and stop at the level your project requires – an official test, a job, settling here for good. Not sure where you stand? We find out before the first lesson.

Luxembourgish lessons for companies
Your staff understand the customer, not just the file. Reception, phone calls, meetings: we work on the situations they really face, on your premises or by video call, and the training qualifies for the tax credit.
At work, everything happens between B1 and C1: following a meeting, defending a proposal, writing without needing a proofreader. We assess each employee before forming the groups.

Why learning Luxembourgish makes a difference
It’s the language of the country, and the only one you can’t learn anywhere else. In cycle 1 of primary school, everything happens in it: instructions, stories, playground squabbles. A child who doesn’t hear it at home therefore starts school a step behind, before the first lesson has even begun — and it rarely shows straight away, because the child simply goes quiet.
Later on, it’s the language that opens doors no other language can. French is enough in most shops; it isn’t enough at a government counter, or in a team that jokes between meetings, or at an interview where the employer is looking for someone who will stay. Many public-sector jobs require it in black and white.
Finally, it’s the language of citizenship: the test required for naturalisation is on spoken Luxembourgish — understanding, and answering. That’s good news for anyone who thinks they’re no good at languages: you aren’t asked to write. And it’s quicker to learn than people fear, especially if you already speak German.

The best teachers
Who you learn with
We take great care in choosing our teachers: each one is interviewed and tested before their first lesson. We look at their degree, of course, but just as much at the way they explain – that is what helps a student progress. Then we look among our teachers for the one whose profile matches your level and your goal.
- Teachers holding at least a bachelor’s degree, recruited after an interview and a test.
- Native speakers for spoken language practice.
- 96% satisfied customers and more than 140,000 hours of lessons taught.
- An organisation approved by the Ministry of National Education: your corporate training qualifies for a tax credit of 20% to 35%.

Since I started, I have been supporting children at primary school in Luxembourg. The most important thing is to help them with languages – German, French and Luxembourgish – and to give them back their self-confidence.

I contacted Cours At Home to take Luxembourgish lessons. The lessons are tailored to what we ask for, and scheduling lessons with the teacher is very flexible. I really recommend it, I’m very satisfied.
This language school is great and the staff really listen. Jérôme Koenigsecke, who runs it, is always fully available and will answer all your questions. Liliana (Luxembourgish teacher) is very caring and teaches with exemplary skill.
I am very happy with Cours at Home’s services. I have been using them for a little over three years now, and I can confirm that their service is excellent. Cours at Home always listens to its clients’ needs – needs which, in my case, are rather demanding, since I am usually looking for German-speaking teachers.
I took German and Luxembourgish lessons with Cours at Home and I’m very satisfied. The lessons are well structured and tailored, and the trainers are good teachers. It really helped me progress. I recommend them without hesitation.
The German lessons with Aurore make for real learning, with lots of speaking practice, interactive lessons, good teaching methods and plenty of variety. I recommend her 100%. The lessons are well organised, with flexible options.

Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most
Have a question? Call us now
+352 26 30 27 90Can I really start from scratch?
Yes, and most of our adult learners do: they can say “moien” and that’s about it. We speak from the very first lesson, using situations you already face — the neighbour, the bakery, the team meeting. Writing only comes later, and only if you have a use for it.
Do you prepare for the naturalisation language test?
Yes. The test is on spoken Luxembourgish, so we work on understanding and answering in the situations the test covers, then practise its format so nothing comes as a surprise on the day. We don’t run the exam itself — it’s taken at the Institut national des langues — we prepare you for it.
My child joined primary school partway through the year. Can they catch up?
Yes, and it happens fastest in cycle 1, because everything there is spoken. The teacher works with the words from the child’s school day rather than a textbook, and the gap closes in weeks rather than years. The longer you wait, the more the child gets used to staying silent.
How long does it take to hold a conversation?
Nobody can give you a date, and be wary of anyone who does. What we can say: people who already speak German progress quickly, because they’re halfway there; people starting from French take longer to tune their ear than their tongue. One session a week, kept up for a few months, is enough for most people to get by day to day.
Can our staff learn it at work?
Yes, on your premises or by video call, at times that suit you. We work on reception, phone calls and meetings rather than a general textbook, and the training qualifies for the tax credit for businesses.
