German lessons in primary school
German is the language children learn to read and write in, from cycle 2 onwards, and reading only becomes fluent with practice. Yet many children speak Luxembourgish, Portuguese or French at home and only hear German in class: the first years are tough, and that says nothing about their abilities.
So we take things in order — reading aloud until it flows, the missing vocabulary, spelling, then understanding texts and instructions. All at the pace of their class’s programme and in their own exercise books, so each session helps at school the very next day.
All lessons – PrimaryGerman lessons in secondary school
The pace picks up and the German mark carries a lot of weight on the report. Grammar, reading comprehension, written expression: we go back over what wasn’t understood, then practise on the exams the pupil will actually sit.
It is the scale on which the secondary school programmes are built: we know where the student needs to be at the end of the year, and we start by looking at where they really are.

German lessons for adults
From complete beginner to brushing up, at your own pace and on your own schedule. Most of our adult learners have a specific goal: understanding their colleagues, passing an official test, or settling in the country for good.
The whole scale is open to you: we start at A1 if you have never practised, and stop at the level your project requires – an official test, a job, settling here for good. Not sure where you stand? We find out before the first lesson.

For your teams, on your premises or by video call, using the vocabulary of their job rather than a general textbook. Our training qualifies for the tax credit for businesses.
At work, everything happens between B1 and C1: following a meeting, defending a proposal, writing without needing a proofreader. We assess each employee before forming the groups.

Why German matters so much in Luxembourg
It’s the language in which children learn to read and write at primary school, even before French. A pupil who falls behind in German rarely falls behind in German alone: the instructions for a maths exercise, the questions in a history test — everything goes through it in the early years.
Later on, it’s a professional asset. In a job market where French, German and Luxembourgish all cross paths in a single day, German remains the language of much written communication — and the one most public-sector employers ask for.
It’s also the language where the gap between pupils widens fastest: those who hear it at home and the rest. Closing that gap takes less talent than consistency — and an adult who takes it up has no handicap at the start, just less time.

The best teachers
Who you learn with
We take great care in choosing our teachers: each one is interviewed and tested before their first lesson. We look at their degree, of course, but just as much at the way they explain – that is what helps a student progress. Then we look among our teachers for the one whose profile matches your level and your goal.
- Teachers holding at least a bachelor’s degree, recruited after an interview and a test.
- Native speakers for spoken language practice.
- 96% satisfied customers and more than 140,000 hours of lessons taught.
- An organisation approved by the Ministry of National Education: your corporate training qualifies for a tax credit of 20% to 35%.

As a native German speaker, I particularly enjoy teaching German in all its subtlety, as one of the three languages used and recognised by law in the Grand Duchy. By drawing on a range of learning methods and adding varied exercises suited to each student’s level, I love seeing their progress and their pleasure in learning and perfecting the language.

I contacted Cours At Home to take Luxembourgish lessons. The lessons are tailored to what we ask for, and scheduling lessons with the teacher is very flexible. I really recommend it, I’m very satisfied.
This language school is great and the staff really listen. Jérôme Koenigsecke, who runs it, is always fully available and will answer all your questions. Liliana (Luxembourgish teacher) is very caring and teaches with exemplary skill.
I am very happy with Cours at Home’s services. I have been using them for a little over three years now, and I can confirm that their service is excellent. Cours at Home always listens to its clients’ needs – needs which, in my case, are rather demanding, since I am usually looking for German-speaking teachers.
I took German and Luxembourgish lessons with Cours at Home and I’m very satisfied. The lessons are well structured and tailored, and the trainers are good teachers. It really helped me progress. I recommend them without hesitation.
The German lessons with Aurore make for real learning, with lots of speaking practice, interactive lessons, good teaching methods and plenty of variety. I recommend her 100%. The lessons are well organised, with flexible options.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most
Have a question? Call us now
+352 26 30 27 90Do I need to know some German already to start?
No. We take learners from complete beginner to advanced. Before the first lesson we assess the level — orally for an adult, from schoolwork for a pupil — and the teacher starts from there.
My child is falling behind in German at school. Where do you start?
With what’s really holding them back, which is rarely what the mark suggests: reading too slowly, too little vocabulary, grammar rules that were never consolidated. The teacher then works at the pace of their class’s programme, using their own school materials.
How often should lessons be?
One session a week is the most common rhythm: regular enough to make progress, flexible enough to keep up over a school year. Ahead of a specific deadline, we step it up over a few weeks. There’s no long-term commitment; you adjust as you go.
Can lessons take place online?
Yes, with the same teacher and the same method: a virtual classroom with a whiteboard, screen sharing and document exchange. Many adults switch between in-person and video call depending on their week.
Can my company pay for the training?
Yes. Cours at Home is approved by the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training: employee training costs are tax-deductible, and a tax credit may be granted subject to conditions. We carry out a level assessment at the start, followed by regular progress reviews.
