Mathematics lessons in primary school
This is where it all starts: number sense, operations, problem-solving. And questions are read in German — a child who stumbles over the text stumbles over the exercise, even if they can count. We work on both.

From 7e to 1re, every concept builds on the one before: a gap from last year comes back to bite two years later, and the pupil experiences it as a talent they lack. Almost always, it isn’t today’s lesson that’s the problem — it’s a brick that came loose long before.
So we look for the breaking point before revising anything, rework it, then practise on exams as they are actually set: the same questions, the same time limits, the same presentation pitfalls. That last point makes the mark as much as understanding does.
All lessons – SecondaryMathematics lessons for adults
Adults who take up maths again almost always do so for a competitive exam, a training course or an entrance exam. We revise what’s on the syllabus, without going back over what you’ve already mastered.
All lessons – AdultsWhy maths decides so much
It’s a subject that builds up layer by layer. Each concept rests on the one before: fractions support equations, which support functions, which support calculus. A chapter poorly understood in 7e causes no trouble in 7e — it comes back to bite in 5e, when nobody connects the current difficulty with the gap from two years earlier.
It’s also the subject that shapes pupils’ options. At the end of secondary school, the maths mark opens or closes the science sections, engineering schools and a good share of economics courses. A pupil can love biology and find the door to medicine closed by a maths result.
In Luxembourg, there’s also the language: questions are read in German at primary school, then in French in part of the classic track. A pupil who can do the sums but misreads the question loses marks in maths for a reason that has nothing to do with maths. It’s the first thing we look at, even before the calculations.

The best teachers
Who you learn with
We take great care in choosing our teachers: each one is interviewed and tested before their first lesson. We look at their degree, of course, but just as much at the way they explain – that is what helps a student progress. Then we look among our teachers for the one whose profile matches your level and your goal.
- Teachers holding at least a bachelor’s degree, recruited after an interview and a test.
- Native speakers for spoken language practice.
- 96% satisfied customers and more than 140,000 hours of lessons taught.
- An organisation approved by the Ministry of National Education: your corporate training qualifies for a tax credit of 20% to 35%.

I started giving private lessons, mostly in maths and a little in physics. Since then I have had students at every level of lower and upper secondary school, which has helped me improve my teaching method over time. I understand that many students have significant gaps. I like the idea that I can help students who are struggling, and seeing a student progress gives me personal satisfaction because it makes me feel useful.

I contacted Cours At Home to take Luxembourgish lessons. The lessons are tailored to what we ask for, and scheduling lessons with the teacher is very flexible. I really recommend it, I’m very satisfied.
This language school is great and the staff really listen. Jérôme Koenigsecke, who runs it, is always fully available and will answer all your questions. Liliana (Luxembourgish teacher) is very caring and teaches with exemplary skill.
I am very happy with Cours at Home’s services. I have been using them for a little over three years now, and I can confirm that their service is excellent. Cours at Home always listens to its clients’ needs – needs which, in my case, are rather demanding, since I am usually looking for German-speaking teachers.
I took German and Luxembourgish lessons with Cours at Home and I’m very satisfied. The lessons are well structured and tailored, and the trainers are good teachers. It really helped me progress. I recommend them without hesitation.
The German lessons with Aurore make for real learning, with lots of speaking practice, interactive lessons, good teaching methods and plenty of variety. I recommend her 100%. The lessons are well organised, with flexible options.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most
Have a question? Call us now
+352 26 30 27 90My child says they’re “just not a maths person”. What do you say to that?
That it’s almost always untrue, and that the belief comes after the fact: people think they’re hopeless at a subject they stopped understanding two years ago. Once the breaking point has been found and worked through, the subject becomes doable again. What changes first isn’t the mark — it’s putting a hand up in class.
Should we wait for bad marks before starting?
No — when you start is what costs the most: in maths, a month behind can be made up in a few sessions, a year behind takes terms. The right signal isn’t the mark but the moment the pupil stops doing their exercises because they no longer know where to begin.
Do you prepare for end-of-school exams?
Yes, and on the exams themselves: we work on past papers as they are set, under real time conditions, with the presentation requirements that cost marks to pupils who had actually found the answer. Ahead of the deadline, we step up the pace over a few weeks.
Are lessons given in French or in German?
In the language your child is taught in — that’s the whole point. A pupil in the classic track who does maths in French gains nothing from revising it in German: they’d be learning vocabulary they won’t see on their paper. Tell us the school and the section, and we’ll match you with someone who knows them.
Can adults take up maths again?
Yes, and it’s a common request before a competitive exam, a training course or an entrance exam. We don’t go back over what you’ve mastered: we assess the level, target the exam syllabus, and leave the rest aside.
