Chemistry lessons in Luxembourg

In chemistry, everything connects: leave one chapter hazy and you fall behind on the next three. We start again from that chapter, not from the beginning of the textbook.

Make progress in Chemistry at your own level

Chemistry lessons in secondary school

Equations, moles, reactions: everything connects, and pupils fall behind quickly when a chapter has been left hazy. Above all, it happens late — the pupil keeps up for a few more weeks on what they already know, then suddenly loses their footing, at a point that isn’t where the problem lies.

So we start again from that chapter rather than from the beginning of the textbook: finding it takes one session, going over it properly takes two, and the chapters that follow become clear again on their own. We then work on what actually earns marks — balancing, converting, setting out a line of reasoning — and not just on what is understood.

Why chemistry gets lost along the way

It is a subject built like a chain. The mole underpins reaction equations, which underpin quantity calculations, which underpin titrations. A pupil who has never really grasped what a mole is will keep up with lessons for another three weeks, then drop off all at once — and at that point, nobody goes back three weeks.

It is also abstract precisely where people assume it is concrete. The experiments can be seen, but what a test asks for is written work: balancing, converting, setting out a line of reasoning. Many pupils love the lab and lose their marks on paper.

Hence our approach: find the chapter where the chain broke, go over it properly, and only then move on. Starting again from the beginning of the textbook would waste weeks on what is already secure — and almost always misses the one chapter that matters.

The best teachers

Who you learn with

We take great care in choosing our teachers: each one is interviewed and tested before their first lesson. We look at their degree, of course, but just as much at the way they explain – that is what helps a student progress. Then we look among our teachers for the one whose profile matches your level and your goal.

  • Teachers holding at least a bachelor’s degree, recruited after an interview and a test.
  • Native speakers for spoken language practice.
  • 96% satisfied customers and more than 140,000 hours of lessons taught.
  • An organisation approved by the Ministry of National Education: your corporate training qualifies for a tax credit of 20% to 35%.
Portrait of Giordano

I started giving private lessons, mostly in maths and a little in physics. Since then I have had students at every level of lower and upper secondary school, which has helped me improve my teaching method over time. I understand that many students have significant gaps. I like the idea that I can help students who are struggling, and seeing a student progress gives me personal satisfaction because it makes me feel useful.

What our students say

The reviews shown come from our Google page or were sent to us directly: the name, rating and date are those of the review, and we never rewrite any of them. The overall rating is Google’s – it takes every review into account, including the less favourable ones. How we collect our reviews

I contacted Cours At Home to take Luxembourgish lessons. The lessons are tailored to what we ask for, and scheduling lessons with the teacher is very flexible. I really recommend it, I’m very satisfied.

This language school is great and the staff really listen. Jérôme Koenigsecke, who runs it, is always fully available and will answer all your questions. Liliana (Luxembourgish teacher) is very caring and teaches with exemplary skill.
Florine Lahsene Google, September 2024 Review translated from French
I am very happy with Cours at Home’s services. I have been using them for a little over three years now, and I can confirm that their service is excellent. Cours at Home always listens to its clients’ needs – needs which, in my case, are rather demanding, since I am usually looking for German-speaking teachers.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us most

Have a question? Call us now

How do you find the chapter that’s causing the problem?

By setting exercises, not by asking questions. Pupils can rarely name what they haven’t understood — they just say “chemistry”. By watching them work for half an hour, the teacher sees exactly where the reasoning stops, and it is almost always earlier than you’d think.

My child does well in practicals and badly in tests. Is that common?

Very. What’s assessed is written work: balancing an equation, converting, setting out a line of reasoning. Loving the lab doesn’t prepare you for that. It’s good news, though — it’s exactly what can be learned fastest.

Do you prepare for entrance exams to health-care programmes?

Yes, for adults as well as for pupils in their final years of secondary school. We target the chapters the exam requires and its particular method, without redoing the whole subject — an entrance exam doesn’t reward general knowledge of chemistry, but speed on a precise syllabus.

Does it take a good grounding in maths?

A solid one, not a brilliant one: proportions, powers of ten, linear equations. Where it’s missing, we cover it within the chemistry lessons rather than sending the pupil elsewhere — it’s quicker, and the connection stays visible.

Can lessons take place online?

Yes. A shared whiteboard suits chemistry well: we write the equations together, the pupil corrects them as we watch, and they leave with a written record of the session.
