Accounting and management lessons in secondary school
Balance sheet, income statement, entries: accounting is learned by doing, not by reading. That’s what discourages conscientious pupils — they reread their notes, understand them sentence by sentence, and stay stuck in front of the first exercise.
So we redo the syllabus exercises until the logic of debit and credit becomes obvious: it does so all at once, after thirty or so entries posted yourself, and rarely before. That’s also what makes the subject quick to catch up on, as long as you work at it the right way round.

You run a small organisation, you’re preparing for an exam or you’re changing roles. We work on your documents and the standard chart of accounts, not on a textbook case.

For staff who are new to accounting, or who need to read a budget without ever having learned how. A short course, on your own figures, with the tax credit as a bonus.
All lessons – CompaniesWhy accounting resists those who read it
It’s a logic, not a body of knowledge. Debit and credit aren’t understood by reading about them: they click after thirty or so entries posted yourself, at the point where you stop wondering which side to write on. Before that, everything seems arbitrary; after, almost everything becomes obvious.
That’s why the subject discourages conscientious pupils. They reread their notes, understand them sentence by sentence, and stay stuck in front of an exercise. The lesson wasn’t the problem: the thirty entries were missing.
The good news is the same thing seen from the other side: it’s a subject you can catch up on quickly, provided you work on exercises rather than a textbook. And what you learn is useful well beyond the exam — reading a balance sheet helps anyone running an organisation, preparing for a new role, or wanting to understand the figures they’re shown.

Who you learn with
We take great care in choosing our teachers: each one is interviewed and tested before their first lesson. We look at their degree, of course, but just as much at the way they explain – that is what helps a student progress. Then we look among our teachers for the one whose profile matches your level and your goal.
- Teachers holding at least a bachelor’s degree, recruited after an interview and a test.
- Native speakers for spoken language practice.
- 96% satisfied customers and more than 140,000 hours of lessons taught.
- An organisation approved by the Ministry of National Education: your corporate training qualifies for a tax credit of 20% to 35%.

I have been teaching for Cours at Home since 2010 and have never wanted to leave the company, because of the steady stream of teaching assignments I have received since I joined, and because of how reliable and flexible they are.

I contacted Cours At Home to take Luxembourgish lessons. The lessons are tailored to what we ask for, and scheduling lessons with the teacher is very flexible. I really recommend it, I’m very satisfied.
This language school is great and the staff really listen. Jérôme Koenigsecke, who runs it, is always fully available and will answer all your questions. Liliana (Luxembourgish teacher) is very caring and teaches with exemplary skill.
I am very happy with Cours at Home’s services. I have been using them for a little over three years now, and I can confirm that their service is excellent. Cours at Home always listens to its clients’ needs – needs which, in my case, are rather demanding, since I am usually looking for German-speaking teachers.
I took German and Luxembourgish lessons with Cours at Home and I’m very satisfied. The lessons are well structured and tailored, and the trainers are good teachers. It really helped me progress. I recommend them without hesitation.
The German lessons with Aurore make for real learning, with lots of speaking practice, interactive lessons, good teaching methods and plenty of variety. I recommend her 100%. The lessons are well organised, with flexible options.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most
Have a question? Call us now
+352 26 30 27 90My child understands the lessons and fails the exercises. How can that be?
It’s the nature of the subject: the logic of debit and credit isn’t picked up by reading, it’s picked up after thirty or so entries posted yourself. The lesson wasn’t the problem — practice was missing, and that’s exactly what a private lesson provides.
Do you work with the Luxembourg chart of accounts?
Yes, with the standard chart of accounts in force here. For a pupil, we follow what their school requires; for an adult, we work directly on your documents rather than on a textbook case, because that’s where the real questions arise.
I run a small organisation without ever having learned accounting. Is this for me?
Yes, and it’s a common request. The aim then isn’t to pass an exam but to stop being at the mercy of your own figures: understanding what you sign, reading a balance sheet, knowing which questions to ask your accountant. A few sessions are often enough.
How long does it take to catch up on a term?
Less than in most subjects, because there’s no stack of knowledge to revisit: once the logic is in place, the rest follows. We don’t promise a timescale, but it’s the subject where the penny drops most clearly.
Do you train company staff?
Yes, on your own figures and in a short format: for those new to accounting, or who need to read a budget without ever having learned how. The training qualifies for the tax credit.
